One of my favorite activities this quarantine has been taking selfies as I said before. However, I wanted take it up a notch and try doing a photoshoot all by myself, and not have to beg my little brother to take my pictures for 20 minutes. It really wasn’t too difficult and the steps were pretty minimal.
- Setup
My favorite part about setting up your picture area is being as simple or creative as your heart desires. For mine, I just grabbed a white sheet and some twinkle lights and hung them up. I wanted to keep this specific photoshoot minimalistic and simple so I didn’t do too much with the background but use your imagination! That’s the exciting part and it always turns out really cool if you make it unique.
2. Outfit/Hair/Makeup
Since everyone’s laundry has consisted of sweats and causal loungewear it’s time to break out that cute outfit you’ve had no reason to wear, but you do now! Show it off for instagram and let everyone know you still have some style in ya. I felt so refreshed curling my hair and doing my makeup for the first time in forever because I love getting ready. I got alllll the compliments from the fam as I strutted down to the kitchen.
3. Taking The Picture
It’s already hard enough to be the model and think of a bunch of poses while also being rushed by your mom or little brother like me. Now, you have to be the model AND the photographer?! It sounds much for difficult that it really is though I promise. First you have to find your levels. Are you sitting down, sitting in a chair, or standing up? When you have to set up your camera because there is no photographer, it is key that the camera levels with your position. I sat in a chair for mine so I leveled my camera so it looked as if someone else was taking the photo. I used different objects to hold my phone up like another chair, a box, and a candle, but you can use any objects around your house. The most important part about a stay at home photoshoot is this: TAKE A VIDEO! It is so much easier to just hit play and not have to wait for each self timer photo. This way, when you move around you won’t be thinking too much about each pose and the photos will look more relaxed and less forced. However, make sure to turn your camera quality up to 4K so when you screenshot the photo through the video, the quality remains good.
These were my results for my first stay-at-home photoshoot with myself as the model and the photographer and honestly, I am so happy with the results. I was going for a simple, minimalistic vibe and I think I achieved it. If you miss getting all dressed up for a photoshoot with your friends, I suggest doing one of these because it passes the time and is super fun.
