First, let me just say that when I was told “high school will fly by” I really didn’t take it that seriously but wow, I cannot believe I’m halfway there. Sophomore year will be a year I’ll never forget for many reasons, and since today was supposed to be my last day of school, I figured now would be a good time to wrap it up and write about my second year in high school.
So, let me give you the quick rundown. This year was definitely different since freshman year was kind of my “trial year” and I was way more involved this year. I also took my first AP class, AP Government and Politics. Overall, probably going to be one of my easier APs but still a change of pace and definitely a peek of what junior year will look like. I was also involved in the Best Buddies club, Leo’s club, and FCA at my high school. I kept myself quite busy with my schools pom/dance team that went from August-February and in the spring I started my first lacrosse season but unfortunately it was cut very short.

The first day of school left like it was ages ago yet also like yesterday. It was great to be back and honestly, I was excited to not be fresh meat anymore lol. I was feeling pretty good and trying to make the best of this year.

Fall means football!!! For many schools football may be like any other sport, but not here! My school is really well known for being an amazing football school so Friday Night Lights are the best part of the week! Our student sections are always packed and the whole town always shows up to watch the boys win.

the poms and cheerleaders chanting a cheer for the student section
The pictures can show more accurately how exciting my Friday nights were. Every Friday my team would get ready in our uniforms, cheer on the boys for pregame and the first half, and finally preform our routine during halftime. So many traditions and activities passed down each year that make it so much more special for the students.

at the state championship
we won!!!!!!
We made it to the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP! Before this, we had THREE consecutive championship wins under our belt. However, my freshman year, we didn’t make it so this year was very exciting. Our team literally destroyed our opponent winning 38-0 and it was such an amazing experience to be in the huge Navy Stadium cheering on our boys one last time this season.

HOCO SPIRIT WEEK! white for sophomores
the day of homecoming!! and my pre-dance photoshoot ๐
HOMECOMING WEEK!! Another one one of my favorite times of the year. With so much excitement building up and with our incredible spirit, our homecoming week was a success. We had our spirit week that was full of fun costumes, a very entertaining pep rally, the homecoming football game, and of course the dance!

winter dance!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR
With 2020 around the corner, in December we had our winter formal!! We called it Snow-co, a winter hoco haha. Of course, I was happy because I took any chance I got to dress up, so I found this sparkly dress in the back of my closet and picked up a big puffy jacket to make this outfit memorable! I paired this with some vans which you can’t see in the picture but I seriously loved this look. I also wanted to include a New Years picture because we were all so excited to enter a new decade, but we had no idea what would be in our future.

In February, our long LONG pom season was finally coming to a close, with our county championship where we placed second! Being in Division 1 (the most competitive), there was a lot of difficult opponents. However, my team really pulled together a fabulous six-minute routine that was a huge crowd pleaser. I’m so proud to say we placed second out of 8 teams and end the year with a victory.
In March, we were unfortunately given a two week break that would lead to never coming back that year. Wow, if you would have told me on that first day of school that I would have finished the year online, I would have laughed. It’s crazy to believe that’s how it went down but in all honesty, I learned so much with this crazy year that will go down in history books.

Although we didn’t have a graduation for the seniors, our school put together a parade with safety precautions to keep everyone safe. It wasn’t what we all expected but we got to cheer on and celebrate our senior class which was great.
One of my traditions is to make a video of all my memories of that year, so here’s my sophomore year recap video. I’m so happy that I’ll be able to relive some of the best moments and have them to look back at forever.
Sophomore year was great, and looking forward to junior year I’m a bit nervous for the work aspect of it, but I know it will be amazing. Hopefully next fall there will be a football season, a homecoming week, and more for us to experience all over again.
I hope you guys enjoyed this little trip down memory lane as much as I did. I hope this summer brings everyone positivity and peace and with that lots more memories that you’ll never want to forget.
xoxo, megs
