Basic To Bold: Back To School Looks

Hi everyone! This is a continuation of my mini back to school series and I’d like to finish it off with three looks that I would be wearing if I was going back to school. As I said before, I will be fully online for the first semester of my junior year. However, I still love to dress up and style looks for the students going back to school! I tried to use basic clothing items that everyone has and spice them up to take them from basic to bold.

1.ZEBRA GIRL

For the first look, many of the clothing items are pretty basic. A pair of ripped jeans and a basic white tee are essential in ones closet, so I used those as my basis. Once you have a good foundation for your outfit, it is SO easy to spice it up using your personal style. Layering is a great way to build up a great outfit and can help you follow a strict dress code. I layered a black bodysuit from TJ Maxx and it automatically gave this outfit some definition.

In my opinion, accessorizing is the best and easiest way to elevate your style and take a basic outfit and make it bold. If you watch my Instagram stories, you saw this zebra belt I picked up on my last Target run. I really believe this was the game-changer for this outfit. It added a fun print and a statement accessory to catch your eye. For shoes, I figured these black and white boots were perfect for this “zebra girl” look.

2. FALL FLANNELS

As we are transitioning from summer to fall, I figured throwing in a flannel look couldn’t hurt anyone. This isn’t my favorite way to style a flannel (I typically go for flannels with sweats lol), but I was trying to keep these looks somewhat casual/dressy-ish. This outfit will keep you quite warm in chillier weather but it also is school appropriate for those with stricter dress codes. I added a turtleneck underneath to add definition to the outfit and a claw clip is a super trendy accessory at the moment! They keep hair out of your face but also create a really cute hairstyle!

3. TRENDY SCHOOL GIRL

When you think of plaid skirts you may typically think of a modest school girl type look. I’m here to prove that plaid skirts can also be bright, bubbly, and trendy! With a tucked in graphic tee and my favorite chunky sneakers, you’ve automatically transformed this look from basic plaid to trendy plaid.

I know one does not usually wear sunglasses to school but for the purpose of making this a “trendy school girl” look, just go with it! These glasses were my impulsive purchase at Target and I’m a huge supporter of tiny glasses. They don’t really block your eyes from the sun but they make your outfit look ten times better for sure. I felt very LA city girl in this look and although this is a back to school blog post, I suggest investing in a pair of sunglasses like these.

If you’ve read the entire blog post today, thank you! Hopefully you’ve read my other two blog posts for this back to school series, because you might find some inspiration for your back to school looks! I know this school year is super unpredictable and different for all of us, but I still wanted to put out a few outfits for everyones back to school journey. I wish you all a safe, healthy, and amazing school year.

xoxo, megs
