How To: Style A Leather Jacket

Leather jackets, an essential item in anyone’s closet who is attempting an edgy style (aka…me). Call me basic but they’re amazing jackets and so easy to style.  This leads me to my next point, even if the jacket may not appeal to your personal style, you can transform it to make the outfit uniquely yours. In today’s post, I styled my new leather jacket from Express three ways!

1. LEATHER x2

As you may or may not know, I’ve been obsessed with the leather pants trend recently. I’ve styled them quite a few ways so far, but I never had a leather jacket to go with it until now. I think adding the cheetah bodysuit to break the two leather pieces was definitely a good move. It allows for the leather to shine, but your eyes also catch the bodysuit as it’s also spotlighted. I see this look being one you either love or hate, just like denim on denim…it just doesn’t appeal to everyone. I for one felt so bada$$ in this leather on leather look so it definitely has my approval.

2. A CASUAL EDGE

Leather on denim, something that almost sounds wrong, but it so so right. The leather jacket is for sure a statement piece, but it fits right into this casual look. The basis of this look consists of some wide-pant jeans, an off the shoulder crop top, and some sneakers. Basically meaning it is such a basic combination that you almost need a statement jacket to draw some attention to yourself! Your face may be covered underneath that mask, but that doesn’t mean your outfit can’t grab some attention.

Honestly with this look, any jacket works, I just chose the leather because I wanted to test the waters. A denim jacket, shacket, or blazer would work just as well. If you’re trying out a more edgy style this year, I’d highly suggest investing in a leather jacket. With this look, you’re not completely shattering any fashion boundaries, but you’re trying something new!

3. ADD SOME PRINT

The jacket is one thing, but honestly, my eyes are completely focused on the fishnets. No seriously, at this rate, I’m going to be writing a full post on how to incorporate fishnets into your looks. Obviously, this blog post is about leather jackets so let’s chat. I wanted to do a look with a dress and right off the bat, I knew this zebra dress would look so good with the jacket. I went with docs for shoes in order to keep the black and white color palette going.

I’ve been trying to go outside of my own fashion boundaries this year and fishnets were one thing I wanted to check off my list. In my opinion, they complete the look. I love how they bring a bit more edge than I’m used to.

I am so pumped to hit publish on this blog post for several reasons. First, I can actually say I love each and every outfit I styled for today’s post (which may sound surprising, but I get super critical and picky about my own looks). Second, I mixed it up and threw in some casual iPhone pictures AND professional pictures from a nicer camera. Many of you said on an Instagram poll you prefer iPhone pictures so I may be drifting back towards them. THIRD! I MADE A TIKTOK! FOR THE BLOG! I will be posting fashion-related content on that page, and possibly even content related to music and film (two other things I love!). So, if you’d like to go follow it my username is @themissmegs!

xoxo, megs
