April, a dreary yet beautiful month introducing us to spring. Spring is my favorite time of the year, the school year is coming to a close, the weather is warming up, and the flowers are blooming. Although there are some downsides to this time of year: preparing for final exams, humidity, and rain, spring is a time for reflection and growth in my humble opinion. I find spring to be a time where I can reflect on how my year is going, and try to make a better version of myself just in time for summer. I don’t necessarily mean grind in the gym to make my body perfect for ‘hot girl summer’, I mean internally. I view ‘hot girl summer’ as a mentality. No, you don’t have to be single, have a six-pack, or have thousands of dollars in your bank account to prosper during this time, just some confidence. So, my point of this little spiel was to say that April was my time of reflection. In April, I ended up taking a step away from the blog, and focusing on school (since exams are approaching), I took my driver’s license test and worked a ton at the restaurant. So, this last week I realized I needed to reflect on the extra shifts and other extra things I did this month and what it took away, which was this blog. I ended up getting pretty sad and realized I posted only one blog post this month, one. It was a damn good one, but that was it. I guess I’m happy that I stuck to my quality over quantity attitude, but I definitely realized I might have been lazy this month.
SO! What did I do to cope with this feeling of feeling lazy, sad, and overall in need of some motivation? I made a drastic change to my hair! Yes yes, so original I know. I got curtain bangs and highlights and ultimately that was my push. I know I said your looks shouldn’t contrinute to that ‘hot girl summer’ mentality, but nothing a good haircut can’t fix okay?
So, now I’m going to recap this month and list out a few of my favorite movies, books, and more. At the end of the post, you’ll see what that little time of self reflection did for me and how things will change in May.
THIS MONTH ON MISSMEGS
Outfits outfits outfits! Honestly although I may have lacked in the writing department on the blog this month, my weekly OOTD’s were kind of fire if I do say so myself. These were my top 3 of the month.
Okay, like I said earlier, I posted one blog post between my March Favorites and this post, and it was an advice post. Feeling Ordinary in a World of Extraordinary, a feeling I’ve been wanting to put into words for so long now, but have struggled to properly explain. If you haven’t already checked this one out, I highly recommend it (yes of course I’m biased I wrote it).
TV SHOWS/MOVIES
Movies this month! I slacked a little in this department because I was trying to keep pushing through my Marvel movie marathon, BUT my top two movies that weren’t Marvel were Before Sunrise directed by Richard Linklater, and Gone Girl directed by David Fincher. Before Sunrise was a beautiful love story yet it felt totally natural and not cliché whatsoever. It’s also a trilogy so I cannot wait to watch the other two movies. I watched Gone Girl with my friends and we were on edge the whole time. I made several predictions throughout the entire movie and I changed my mind about who behind it all like six times. Age Of Ultron is probably my favorite Marvel movie yet (and before I hear the criticism no I haven’t seen Endgame yet…I wanted to do a chronological marathon and THEN watch it…don’t ask why it has taken me this long). As always, if you’re a movie fan, make sure to download Letterboxd and follow me @megreese.
BOOKS/MUSIC
In last month’s recap, I mentioned that I started reading Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. Honestly, I didn’t read it as often as I’d hoped so I’m only about 100 pages deeper into the novel since last month. However, a friend of mine praised the popular book series, A Court of Thornes and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I’ve heard mixed reviews on the books, but I wanted to give it a try since my friend was nice enough to let me borrow her copies of the books.

LOOKING INTO MAY
YAY MAY! I have so many ideas for what this month will hold, so I’m super excited to get exams over with so I can focus on the blog. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to write as much as I hope to, but I’m going to make it a priority. Although working and money is nice, school is important, and seeing my friends often is necessary, this blog is the one thing I do on my own, it’s not for a grade, and I’m able to use my passion for something great.
With that being said, April was a month of self-reflection, and May will be my time for growth. I have photos from a photoshoot with McKenzie that I’ll be sharing this month, as well as so many ideas for music and advice blog posts. I also have prom coming up this month, so that is super exciting. Also, I uploaded my first Instagram picture on @themissmegs on May 22 of 2020, meaning I’ll probably do a little celebration dance on that day of this year. Exciting stuff.
Wishing you all a wonderful May, thank you for reading, I love you!
xoxo, megs
